Obituary of Phyllis Clarke
Phyllis Marjorie Unette Clarke was born in Fairville NB on March 5, 1923. She was the daughter of the late William and Emma Rae (McIntyre) Purcell.
Phyllis and her husband Willard lived in Hibernia from 1945 until 1953 when the properties in the area were expropriated to create Camp Gagetown. Fredericton became home until 1989. The move to Sussex occurred in 1989 and Willard passed away in Sussex in 2010. Phyllis and her husband enjoyed traveling, first by car and than later in life taking trips with Nancy's Bus tours. She was an avid bingo player and developed many bingo friendships. Family was very important to her and she loved them dearly. Friends were a very important part of her life. Phyllis was a life member of the Sussex Health Centre Auxiliary, a member of the St. John Ambulance and was also a member of the Base Gagetown Historical Association as well as being a member of The Sussex Cancer Support Group.
She will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Heather Toole and her husband Fred of Saint John; two sons: John and his wife Doreen of Sussex and David of Fredericton; her sister, Connie Lockhart of Saint John; her grandson, Sean Clarke; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis Marjorie Unette Clarke passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on May 4, 2017 at the age of 94, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased in addition to her husband Willard were six brothers: Edwin, Raymond, Bobby, Clarence, Burton and Charles Purcell and by two sisters: Audrey Paisley and Pauline Linton
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Monday May 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm..
A service celebrating Phyllis' life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 am. A time of fellowships and light refreshments will follow. The interment will be in the Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Saint John.
