Obituary of Hector Lafferty
Mr. Hector J. Lafferty was born in Chipman on December 19, 1910 to the late Owen and Susan (Gallagher) Lafferty. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Lucas) Lafferty who passed away in 2004.
During his long and active life, Mr. Lafferty was involved in many and varied businesses. He was a self-made entrepreneur, beginning with vegetable deliveries as a boy, using a small cart managed by his own physical resources. Mr. Lafferty moved on to employment over the years with different national and provincial firms, such as the Canadian National Railway, Irving Oil, and Canadian War Munitions. He was also a pioneer in the New Brunswick trucking and coal mining industries operating under the company name Lafferty Brothers. Throughout his life, Mr. Lafferty had an active interest in provincial and national politics, often regaling his listeners, family and visitors, with insightful and colourful observations regarding political figures and events. Hector was best known for his generosity to others and his dedication to his beloved Kathleen with whom he shared many years. He shared what he had with those who had less. Mr. Lafferty was an active Roman Catholic, attending St. Joseph's Parish, Chipman and later in his life, St. Francis Xavier Parish in Sussex, New Brunswick.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Hector is survived by his children: Margaret Anne Nott and her husband George of Saint John, Leo and his wife Catherine of Riverview, Marita Jackson and her husband Albert of Petitcodiac, Peter of Halifax, Ellen Brown and her husband Stephen of Petitcodiac, Cathy Parsons and her husband Robert of
Paradise, NFLD, Frances Sarchfield and her husband Calvin of Millbrook, Mark and his wife Patricia of Riverview; thirteen grandchildren: Peter Boudreau, Patricia Lemon, Shannon Lafferty-Kim, David Jackson, Patrick Jackson, Jim Lafferty, Lisa McLean, Nicole Killam, Shawndelle MacPhee, Logan Sarchfield, Caleigh Sarchfield, Ryan Lafferty and Lacey Black, fourteen great grandchildren: Lindsay, Kasey, Sophie, Grace, Landon, Samantha, Monica, Erica, Anthony, Jax, Noah, Christian, Zachery and Keira and one great great granddaughter, Abigail; his sisters-in-law, Margaret and Marion Lucas; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is predeceased by three brothers: Philip, Frank and Gerald Lafferty; five sisters: Genevieve Lafferty, Frances Saunders, Ellen MacFarlane, Geraldine Swift and Evelyn Hennessy.
Mr. Hector J. Lafferty, of Sussex Corner, passed away February 2, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being held on February 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church
