Obituary of Vivian Evelyn Brown

Mrs. Vivian Evelyn Brown was born in Millstream on February 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bliss Ora Darling and Vera Evelyn (Craft) Darling.

Vivian started school at Pleasant Ridge and later attended Sussex High School. Prior to marriage she worked as a mother's helper for eight families in the Millstream area. On October 12, 1949, she married the love of her life, Russell and went on to have six children whom she loved and cared for deeply. In 1986, her world was shaken when her beloved husband passed away.

Vivian worked for 25 years as a custodian at Sussex Composite High School and also operated a daycare from her home for many years, she enjoyed reminiscing on her many fond memories of the children she cared for.

Vivian was a lifelong member of the Sussex Baptist Church, where she was very active in the congregation. She was a member of the ABW Bible study group, taught Sunday School, Explorers and C.G.I.T. 

She was a wonderful knitter, having knitted at least 120 sweaters, 15 Afghans and many, many dish cloths. She loved crossword puzzles and doing jigsaw puzzles and her daily journal that she faithfully kept for over 50 years will be a treasured family keepsake.

Vivian will live on in the hearts of her four daughters: Beverley Hawthorne (George) of Sussex, Debby Whalen (Michael) of Sussex, Marcia Thomas (Joseph) of Pleasant Ridge,Tracy Homan (Mark Pearson) of Sussex, her son, Matthew Brown of Brampton, Ontario,and son in law Grant Smillie of Calgary,  Alberta; her brother, Larry Darling (Eileen) of Quispamsis and her sister, Sandra Swansburg (Dale) of Moncton; 14 grandchildren: Julie Atkinson (Marcus), Simon Hawthorne, Jackie Dick (Shawn), Benjamin Whalen (Michelle), Luke Whalen (Lindsay Thorne), Becki Whalen, Michelle Thomas (Ryan Bittorf), Amanda McNeally (Shawn), Katie Smillie, Bronson Smillie, Adrian Bello, Megan Homan (Aaron Armstrong), Mason Homan, Maddie Homan; 15 great grandchildren: Ryder, Page, Hudson, Seth, Bret, Kody, Kyle, Cole, Shaylee, Jenna, Tanner, Keeva, Dylan, Wyatt and Luka; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vivian Evelyn Brown of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on July 9, 2017 at the age of 85.

Vivian was predeceased by her husband Russell, her daughter Susan Smillie and by her brothers: Everett, Gordon, Austin, Delbert and Ron Darling.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8pm and Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  

A service celebrating Vivian’s life will be held from Sussex Baptist Church on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at  2:00 pm. 

There will be a time of fellowship with the family in the Church Hall immediately following the service. The interment will take place in Wesley Cemetery, Berwick, NB.
