Obituary of Weldon Osborne

Weldon was born in Poodiac, NB in 1926, the youngest child to Fred and Lillian Osborne, and brother to Enid and Jean.

He attended school in Poodiac walking the long trail in winter and summer always keeping perfect attendance. After finishing school Weldon worked in the woods, did a few months of military training in the army in Fredericton, and drove taxi here in Sussex.   Weldon spent some time hanging out at the SMT Restaurant, and this is where he met the love of his life Myra.  Weldon started work at Patriquin Motors which paved his way for a career in motor mechanics and worked hard to provide for Myra and his children Bobby and Betty.  Weldon married Myra and they moved to Niagara Falls in January 1957.  Weldon had no problem getting work as a mechanic, of course at a Ford Garage.  They made many lifelong friends, as they did wherever they lived, but for health reasons moved to Florida in 1969.

Weldon easily found work but one of his favourite jobs was working at a Golf Course in Florida, keeping equipment and grounds in perfect order.  After retiring he and Myra returned to Sussex every summer. One of his proudest accomplishments was building his beautiful but modest home on Fowler Ave where he lived until two weeks ago when he was hospitalized. Weldon loved the outdoors as long as it was warm.  His passion was hunting, fishing and of course his garden.  He will be remembered by family and friends for his quick wit, always making jokes.  His love and devotion to their two dogs Brandy and Kandy was always evident.  When Myra passed nearly two years ago, Weldon and Kandy grew especially close, so it was of little surprise that they both passed with few hours apart.

Weldon will live on in the hearts of his children Bob and Betty, his cousins Hazel and Elsie always making him smile, his special niece Sandra who keep Weldon well stocked with his favorite date squares and molasses cookies; his neighbors Carl for keeping him and Kandy shoveled out in winter and Debbie for plates of goodies, his grandchildren Angela Millard, and Stephen and Mark Damery, his 13 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Weldon passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on August 1st at the age of 91.  He was predeceased by his wife Myra, his sisters Jean Parlee and Enid Smith, his daughter in law Barbara Meehan and son in law Cecil Damery, and his grandson Lee Meehan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).

A service celebrating Weldon’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at  2:00 pm followed by a time of fellowship with the family.

If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the Canadian Cancer Society.
