Obituary of Dorothy Blackadar Philpott
Mrs. Dorothy Blackadar Philpott was born on June 3, 1917 in Weymouth, NS; the fifth child of the late Guy and Margaret (Goodwin) Blackadar.
Dot attended Weymouth Public School and graduated from Weymouth High School. She went on to take stenographers course at Acadia, after which she worked for the Royal Bank in Weymouth. Dot then took a job at the Weymouth Shipyards. It was there that she met her future husband, Edward (Ted) Philpott, who was over-seeing the construction of warships for the Canadian Navy. They married in Saint John, NB on September 28, 1944.
After the war they moved to Halifax where Ted took a job with Simpson-Sears and soon after Dot and Ted would have three children. The family later relocated to Sussex Corner, NB and then to Sussex.
After raising her family Dot worked for many years at Sussex Farm Supplies. She was an avid quilter, bowler, cross-country skier, bridge player and animal lover. She attended St. John's United Church and was involved in various women's organizations. Dot was treasurer of the Sussex Horse Show Association for many years. After retiring, Dot and Ted traveled extensively.
Dot will live on in the hearts of her sons: Guy and his wife Nola, and Kent; her daughter, Jill Summers and her husband Dean; her step-children: Kelvin Philpott and his wife Di and Pat Bailey and her husband Pete; her grandchildren: Dawn Wheeler, Devon Philpott, Troy Philpott, Jennie Philpott, Dana (Summers) Laframboise, Kyle Summers and Leah (Summers) Goward and by her great grandchildren. Dot will be missed by her dear friend, Grace Fenwick.
Mrs. Dorothy Blackadar Philpott of Riverview, passed away at the Lakeview Manor on October 8, 2017 at the age of 100.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Ted who passed away in 1998.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Friday from 12-2pm.
A service celebrating Dot's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Jeanette Cosman officiating. The interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, North Weymouth, NS on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00pm.
