Obituary of Ethel Joyce Smith
Mrs. Ethel Joyce (Carhart) Smith was born in Sussex, May 21, 1934 to the late Kathleen (Carhart) Doyle.
Ethel was very strong and determined. Life was not always kind, but she always persevered. When she met and married her late husband, Leslie Smith, life became a little brighter. Leslie was so loving and kind to her.
Ethel was a stay at home mom who loved her family dearly. She and her son Tom were especially close and Ethel was delighted to be living near him so she could enjoy watching her grandchildren grow up. She loved to have company and every time her granddaughters Kira and Maranda were over for a visit, she would make them hot chocolate.
Ethel was quite funny and could always make you giggle. She was talkative, friendly and had a cheerful personality. She loved to be out walking and really enjoyed old country music, particularly if Wilf Carter was playing. Faith was important to Ethel and she attended church whenever possible.
On Saturday, November 4, 2017, this lovely lady passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Sussex Health Centre.
Ethel is survived by her sons: Tom and Alison Smith of Penobsquis and their daughters Kira (Mike LeBlanc) and Maranda, son Gerry and Kelly Patterson of Moncton and their children Rachel, Jason, Stephen, David, Allen and Shawn and her son Steven and Darla Patterson of Toronto and their children Christine and Scott; her daughter Shirley Chiasson of Hampton and Shirley's children Anita and Michelle; her brother Grover and Joan Doyle of Carsonville; sisters: Barbara and Bernard Henderson of Salisbury and Gwen Craft of Carsonville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother and husband Leslie, Ethel was predeceased by her daughter Irene.
