Obituary of Harold Lake
It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Donald Lake, age 86, of Sussex, NB announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Sussex Health Centre. Harold was born in Fox River, NS, on October 3, 1931, husband of the late Yvonne (Melanson) Lake and one of five children born to J. Stanley and Annie (Glennie) Lake.
Harold had a long and fulfilling career in the police force which began at the age of 21 in Amherst, NS in 1952, then on to Oxford, NS and Chatham, NB before ending up as the Police Chief of the Sussex Town Police in 1976. He loved the people of Sussex and was known for believing in the youth of Sussex and giving them second chances.
Harold was an avid fisherman and loved everything about the great outdoors including driving and hiking the mountains around Sussex. He was very competitive and loved to play ball (known for his whip pitch). He also loved to bowl and was involved in both activities most of his life. He loved to play cards and was an avid crib player.
He is survived by his sons: Mike (Nikki) Lake of Moncton, NB, John (Cindy) Lake of Sussex, NB; daughters Terri (Steve) Worth of Orillia, ON, Sandy (Ed) Benci of Medicine Hat, AB, Nancy (Vern) Lonsberry of Medicine Hat, AB, Wendy (Dennis) Martz of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren Matt, Melyssa, Thomas, Tristan, Nick, Sawyer, Erica, Brandi, Sheri, Ryan, Virginia, April, Travis, Lindy, Bradley, Kimberly; great-grandchildren Blake, Mylah, Jaden, Megan, Tristan, Rielan, Jace, Alyiah, Jaxon, Lachlan, Seren, Gracy, Tuffy, Tanner, Cheyenne, Laurie, Kayden, Jenna, Aurora and Cruz. Besides his parents and loving wife Yvonne, Harold is also predeceased by his brother James Lake and sisters Jess Brown, Cynthia Hatfield and Jeanette Lake.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11am from Wallace Community Chapel. Interment will take place in the spring at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sussex Corner.
Donations in memory of Harold may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
