Obituary of Flora Keirstead

Flora Alexandrina (Murray) Keirstead was born January 13, 1914 to George and Agnes (Smith) Murray in Pearsonville, NB.

She was a loving wife to the late Otty Ormand Keirstead. They met when Flora was 15 years of age and Otty was 21. They married on September 21, 1938 and had two sons, Eric Ornand and Reginald Ross.

Flora and Otty owned a farm on St. George Street in Sussex. Flora devoted her life to the farm and her family. Her love of animals was apparent to everyone who knew her. Flora and Otty later moved to their new home together on Cedar Avenue.

Flora adored her two boys, Eric and Ross and opened her heart to the love of their lives: Betty and Lois. Her grandchildren: Lisa and Reg; Lori and Rick brought so much joy to her life and this joy continued with the time she spent with her great grandchildren: Bradley, Keirsten, Katerina, Kurtis and Khloe.

Flora and Otty enjoyed many good times with their friends Bud and Evelyn Eveleigh. Many memories were made with their three boys, in which Daryl was considered a brother. When their spouses passed, Flora and Bud continued their friendship with many good laughs shared amongst the two families.

Flora was a member of St. Paul’s United Church, UCW and the Berwick Senior’s Club. She was always on the go with a busy social life. She enjoyed camping, long drives in the car, outings to McDonald’s, quality time with family and loved spending time with all who knew her. Flora is known for opening her heart and home to all. Her love had no borders.

Besides her family, Flora has an extensive list of friends and acquaintances whom she adored and cared for like family.

Flora was blessed to live a long and rewarding life, just days short of her 104th birthday. She is a blessing to all who have had the pleasure to know her.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Flora will live on in the hearts of her sons: Eric and his wife Betty of Whitney and Ross and his wife Lois of Sussex; her grandchildren: Lisa Johnson and her husband Stephen, Lori Byers and her husband Todd, Reg Keirstead and Janet Dean and Rick Keirstead and his wife Lana; her great grandchildren: Bradley, Keirsten, Katerina, Kurtis and Khloe; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Flora Keirstead of Sussex, passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on January 8, 2018; five days short of her 104th birthday.

She is predeceased by her husband, Otty Keirstead; her brother, Earl Murray and his wife Edith; her sister, Vera Morrison and her husband Charles; and by her special friend, Bud Eveleigh.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
