Obituary of Donald Arthur Bartlett
Mr. Donald Arthur Bartlett was born on January 7, 1938 in
Lower Millstream. He was the son of the late William “Bill” and Sarah “Sadie” (Smith) Bartlett. Donnie met the love of his life on a double blind date and on March 10, 1962 they began their love story as husband and wife. When he was first married he worked as a woodsman, moving on to work in the body shop for Patriquin Motors and then to Clarkes. He would later retire in 1983 from the City of London – working in the Sanitation
Department.
Donnie was first and foremost a family man. He was a kind hearted, smart witted man with a heart of gold. He had a soft spot for children and always believed they could do no wrong. He had an absolute passion for the outdoors. He loved his trips to Ontario to visit his family, his trips to Alma, St. Martin’s and
especially the woods or hunting camps; his spare time was filled with hunting and fishing (especially if he could take the grandkids), gardening, four wheeling – any excuse he could use to be outside. He loved to fool around in the yard, even if he wasn’t really do much of anything; he would always find something to do. He never even let anyone else mow the lawn because he had a specific way it had to be done. He was a great story teller, even if it was the same story over and over again. He also loved a good joke or should it be said - laughing at his own jokes. He was a master when it came to teasing EVERYONE; whether it was when they came to visit him, or just a run in at the grocery store. If he liked you, he teased you. Donnie also loved to cook and if you were lucky, you had the chance to try his famous bacon and eggs and toast.
He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Angela (Smith); their children: Lisa Parkinson and Dave Walker, Elmer “Butch” Bartlett and Bonnie Speight and her husband DJ; his grandchildren: Darryl Page and his wife Angel, Jeff Johnstone and his wife Brandy, Amanda Page, Lyndsey Johnstone, Katelynn Klatt and her husband Ted, Samantha Bartlett, Haley O’Hagan, Jacob Bartlett, Madison Bartlett, Jack Bartlett, Khole Muir and Taylor Bartlett; his great
grandchildren: Stephanie, Caleb, Erica, Julia, Maria and Summer; his brothers: Elmer Crossman and his wife Carmen, Cecil Bartlett and his wife Gwen and William Bartlett; his sister, Carol Mason; as well as several nieces and nephews.
