Obituary of Doreen Lewis

Miss Doreen Lewis was born in Wards Creek on October 22, 1940; she was the daughter of the late John Stanley Lewis and Cora Myrtle (Adair) Lewis.

Doreen graduated from Sussex High School in 1958. In 1963, she graduated third in her class from the nursing program at the Moncton City Hospital. After graduation she went to Norway House and God's Narrows in Northern Manitoba to practice nursing. While she was there not only did she get to be active in her field, but she was able to deliver babies, act as coroner, pull teeth and give stitches. Doreen was always very proud to further herself in her career. She took midwifery at the University of Alberta and Advanced Cardiac Care in Halifax. She worked for many years in the heart unit at Kings County Memorial Hospital and the Sussex Health Centre.

In 1999, she retired from nursing due to health reasons, but she loved helping others so much that she was still able to mentor other nurses. She was a kind and gentle soul who never refused to help anyone.

Doreen was a volunteer with Fundy Ground Search and Rescue; acting as secretary and treasurer. She was also the secretary for the W.I.

She had a passion for sports, especially: figure skating and curling and her beloved Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs.
