Obituary of Kevin Mitton

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kevin Walter Mitton, age 57, husband of Mary Anne (Stockdale) Mitton announces his death which occurred unexpectedly and peacefully from a massive stroke on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  He was born on November 22, 1960 in Sussex, NB, a son of the late Walter and Lois (Hodgin) Mitton.

Kevin and his family lived in the Saint John area when he was young, first in Renforth, then East Saint John before moving to Sussex in 1971.    Kevin came into town with a 'bang!' that made for a story in the Kings County Record when he and 4 friends unwittingly blew up an oil barrel off Paradise Row.   He quickly made life long friends throughout the neighborhood  delivering the Kings County Record and the Telegraph Journal and never forgot the names of those customers and their families.     He played hockey and baseball.     In his youth he and sisters Cindy and Karen enjoyed spending time with his aunts, uncles and cousins at Mechanic Lake.     Kevin was happiest in the great outdoors whether it be fishing or hunting, touring on his 4 Wheeler or playing a round of golf.

He was a kind and caring father figure to Trena and Melanie and later on he proudly became 'Grampie Kevin' to their children.    Spending weekends with Jacob and Reece at his trailer in Scenic View Campground were some of the best days of his life.

Kevin worked at a variety of occupations including the Irving Sawmill, Fawcetts Lumber, and Cliff's Driver Training where he met practically every one for miles.     That's how he met Mary Anne in 1998,  when he taught Nicole to drive.      Kevin and Mary Anne became a couple in 1999 and were married September 15, 2012.    He spoke with pride about Nicole and Karen and loved them as his own girls.  He was so honored to be The Godfather to Christopher Ostrom.

Most recently Kevin was employed by the Town of Sussex,  a job he said felt like 'winning the lottery!'.     There was something different to do every day and no one would dispute Kevin liked to make work FUN.     Kevin's greatest asset was his ability to make people laugh with his quick wit and sense of humour.     If Kevin's stories and accompanying antics didn't make you laugh,  then nothing would.

A diamond in the rough – Kevin was a kind, caring, compassionate and fun loving man.   Devoted husband,  father,  brother, uncle, friend and co-worker.

He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife Mary Anne; sister Cindy Mitton and Debbie Allen of Quispamsis; step-daughters Nicole and Ron Bent of Sussex Corner, Karen Steeves and Josh Fox of Fort MacMurray, Trena Smith and Trevor of Grand Bay-Westfield, Melanie Smith of Sussex; brothers-in-law Blake Craft of Salmon Creek, John and Nan Stockdale, Stephen and Emily Stockdale, Bill and Rose Stockdale, all of Drury’s Cove; sisters-in-law Louise and Jack Pitcher of Drury’s Cove, Judy Stockdale and Don Dow of Sussex; mother-in-law Laura Stockdale of Drury’s Cove; his treasured grandchildren Jacob Friars, Noah Richard, Reece McMackin, Aiden and Owen Linden; godson Christopher Ostrom; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved orange tabby cat Taz.  Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his sister Karen Craft; father-in-law Austen Stockdale and brother-in-law Richard Stockdale.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm.  Funeral service will be held from the Church of the Ascension, Apohaqui on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 am. A private family interment will be held at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sussex Corner.

Donations in memory of Kevin may be made to the Oncology Department of the Saint John Regional, Church of the Ascension Roof Fund or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
