Obituary of Reuben Harris

At his residence, surrounded by his loving family, Reuben Collins Harris of Ward’s Creek, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Saturday Sept 22, 2018.  Born August 31, 1931 in West Oxford Co, ON, he was the son of the late Ernest and Opal (Collins)Harris.

When we think of our Dad we might be reminded of the some of the jobs he had over his life time; truck driver, farmer, woods work, feed salesman,  foreman at Bayshore Lumber and retiring from instructing at Atlantic Transport Training in 1996. After retirement Mom and Dad took a 3 month trip across Canada and into many of the United States. Although Dad liked to travel he was always ready to go home. We know he enjoyed his woodlot, whether it be pruning or just walking through the forest.  Dad’s garden from seed to harvest brought him pleasure. Making simple wooden plaques engraved with scripture brought him joy ... We kids felt contentment watching him skate arm and arm with our mother.  We could see daily his love for her.   But we all agree Dad was also in love with His Lord.  He showed this by serving faithfully at Faith Bible Baptist Fellowship.  God only knows the hours he spent praying for and working through this Fellowship.  Dad had a real concern for the heart and lives of the children of this community and served devotedly many years with the AWANA program. He spoke so caringly about his Faith’s Kitchen Friends.  Dad cared about the souls of all, always eager to share his faith, hand out a track, show a gesture of respect and kindness. His friendly ways and his warm smile made him a perfect fit for welcoming our community as they entered our church.

Dad, once again you were ready to go home.  Your faith now has become sight.  “We thank our God upon every remembrance of you” Phil 1:3

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Bernice (Barron) and their children Wayne Harris (Marguerite) Smith’s Creek, Roben Anderson (Charles) Ward’s Creek, Jeff Harris (Heidi) Fawcett Hill. Grandchildren Ronda O’Donnell (Chris), Mark Anderson (Marjorie), Bethany Sutton (Larry), Naomi MacKay (Jordan), Lydia Harris, Louise Harris and 7 great grandchildren: Mathew and Owen O'Donnell, Iain Anderson, Collin, Charlie, Larah and Cooper Sutton; brothers Richard (Helen) Ernie (Anita); sisters Norma Oldridge, Eileen Dawdry (Wayne) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held from Faith Bible Baptist Fellowship, 33 Pine Street, Sussex on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 4 to 7 from which the funeral will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11:00am.  Interment will take place in Gosline Cemetery, Knightville.
