Erma Sears

Obituary of Erma Lilly Sears

It  is with great sadness that the family of Erma Lilly Sears of Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home, formerly of Upper Coverdale, announces her passing on October 11, 2018.  She was born on September 26, 1935 in Millstream, NB to the late Warren and Iola (Boyd) Hayes.

Erma had a strong faith in the lord and served on her church board at Millstream faithfully for over sixty years at various levels, until failing health forced her to discontinue.

She graduated from Sussex High School with a business course in 1952 and joined T Eaton Co in Moncton one month later as a stenographer.  She quickly became a private secretary where she remained for seven years until raising two children took priority.  Later, and for over 20 years, she ‘mothered’ dozens of children while working as secretary in the office of the Salisbury Elementary school.

In the summer she enjoyed the outdoors.  She and her husband Wayne, built their camp on their woodlot where they spent many relaxing days, early morning walks and hunting. Erma was a gentle and loving spirit.  She had a wonderful sense of humour and was a great story teller.  She had creative talent for sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and cooking.

Erma is survived and sadly missed by her  husband of 64 years, Wayne;  her daughter, Dr. Donna Sears (Ryan) of Canning NS; her son, Roger (Tracy) of Salisbury; her brothers: Gordon Hayes (Isabel) of Millstream and Perley Hayes (Carlen) of Browns Flat; her sisters-in-law: Connie Hayes of Carsonville and Georgina Hayes of Pollet River; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers: Delbert, Blake (Jean) and Arnold and by her infant sister, Glenna.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 4 to 7pm.  A Celebration of Erma's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00am with Rev. Reid Stairs officiating.

There will be a time of fellowship with the family following the service. The interment will take place in Head of Millstream Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
