Obituary of Winifred Wright

Winnie was born in Mechanic Settlement on March 14, 1919. She resided and was schooled in Penobsquis for early education, then went on to Sussex for high school. She picked blueberries in Penobsquis for two and a half cents a box to help put herself through nursing school and she took up that challenge in Moncton. She did not graduate, but in turn, met and married Arthur E. Wright on July 11, 1940. They had a double wedding in Devon, NB with their good friends, Don and Marg Brewing. A son, Paul, was born in 1948 and in 1954, a daughter Anne. Upon Art’s retirement, in 1962, a permanent move was made to Sussex. Winnie started working at the Sheer Silk Hosiery, then moved to Barbour’s Foods where, after 18 years, she retired in 1984. Art’s passing that same year was very difficult but Winnie found peace with her sisters Dolores and Rhoda. Church suppers, 45’s, cooking delicious meals (her lemon pie!) and going for drives with David and Laurel made her so happy. Upon her sisters passing's, and her 80th birthday party, she embraced and was embraced by neighbours. 45’s once again reigned supreme. “30-30 for 60!” Winnie was a great cat lover. A testament to this is Sneak, Suzie and Katie who lived to be 17, 18 and 19 respectively. For all of her accomplishments she was most proud of her children, grandchildren; and she kept them well fed! She could turn her hand to any recipe. The home that she loved so much, as luck would have it, was purchased in 1969 from Don and Marg Brewing. This is where Winnie chose to be at the end with her family
