Obituary of Jean Maria Oliver
Mrs. Jean Maria Kerr was born on February 23, 1929 in Saint John, NB. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Lulu (Harlow) Kerr.
Jean was never idle, she loved to work and stay busy. In her earlier years she was an office worker, she worked for Christie's Cookies and then on to the Saint John General where she worked as a lab technician and later in admitting.
In 1947, a young Jean was out for a walk with a friend when they came across two kind looking men walking on Waterloo St. One walked up next to Jean and three years later, she would be walking up the aisle to him. On September 23, 1950 Jean would marry the love of her life, Murray Oliver after three years of dating.
They would continue celebrating their love story by bringing into the world, four wonderful children. In 1975, Jean and Murray would move to Sussex where they would proudly own and operate the "School Store" for several years.
After a decade, they would spread their wings and move to Calgary, where Jean worked along side Murray doing the books for Calgary Housing. After 20 years of the wild wild west, they would return to their roots and continue to celebrate their 70 years together.
Jean was a wonderful cook and could take something small and feed a village. She was very creative. Her passion was reading, she could simply sit and devour books after books and when she started losing her eyesight, she could not bear to give up reading so she moved on to audio books. In her younger years she was an avid knitter and made lovely afghans.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Jean is survived by her children: Ken and his wife Edwina of Calgary, Jane Brooks of Sussex, Greg of Sussex and Ron and his wife Danielle of PEI; her grandchildren: Tim (Carlyn), Tracy (Jordan) and Madeline; eight great grandchildren: Alex, Avery, Maddie, Aiden, Emily, Teo, Mei and Norah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
