Obituary of Eileen Cole

On October 20, 2018, Eileen Phyllis Cole (Mitton) passed away peacefully at Kiwanis Nursing Home following a visit with Pat, Rick, Devon and Owen. Eileen was born in Penobsquis on July 11th, 1933; she was the daughter of the late Willard and Mildred (Burns) Mitton.

Over the years, she had many great times at the camp in Mechanic Lake where she even lived with her husband Frank for a period of time after selling her house in Sussex Corner. Eileen and Frank played countless games of cards with families and friends at “the lake” and she also spent a lot of time with her grandchildren who had a camp next door.

She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and she especially loved seeing her great grandchildren, Aiden, Oliver, Owen and Thomas.

After the passing of her 1st husband she joined the Sussex Legion where she volunteered countless hours selling poppies, helping with suppers, and selling raffle tickets. She served as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for many years and held a lifetime membership.

She will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Pat Alexander (Rick Hopper) of Penobsquis, her son Jim Alexander (Maralyn Watt) of Edmonton, AB; her grandchildren Samantha Anderson (Paul Mederios) of Toronto, ON, Amanda Anderson (Chad Cosper) of Austin, TX, Chris Anderson (Devon Henderson) of Waterford, Cody Anderson (Brittany) of Antigonish, NS and Brandon Anderson of Charlottetown, PE, Michael Alexander (Timberly Coughlin) of Edmonton, AB; great-grandchildren, Aiden Alexander, Oliver, Owen & Thomas Anderson; step-children Elmer Cole (Kathy) of Sussex Corner, Sandy Cole of Sussex Corner, Barb Guptill of Sussex, Margaret Kyle (Roy) of Apohaqui, and Susan MacKenzie (Ken) of NS; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters Jackie Armstrong and Betty (Raleigh) Myers; brother Bobby (Paulette) Mitton and brother-in-law Harry Fanjoy; and several nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her brothers: Earl, Murray, Doug, Walter, Cecil and Vernon Mitton; her sisters, Verda Fanjoy and Margaret Bruce; her granddaughter Natalie Anderson; first husband Milan Alexander and second husband Frank Cole.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4-8pm, with a Ladies Auxiliary Tribute beginning at 3:45pm.  A service celebrating Eileen’s life will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from St. John’s United Church, Sussex Corner at 4:00pm.
