Obituary of Phyllis Evelyn Whittaker
"A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take."
Phyllis was born in Hoyt, NB on October 11, 1926 to Eldon Mersereau and Ethel (Bell) Mersereau. Phyllis’ Mother passed away in 1929 and Phyllis went to live with her Great Aunt & Uncle. When her Father re-married Stella (Charlton) Mersereau, Phyllis went to live with them. She became big sister to Vincent, Audrey, Vance (passed away in infancy), Leona, Gerri and Howard.
Known for her knitting beautiful socks and mittens and making the best Rice Krispie Squares and cookies. Friends, family and neighours enjoyed many a cup of tea, laughter, and conversations around her kitchen table. She will be greatly missed by us all.
Survived by loving Daughter, Susan (Ron) Burger of Sussex, NB; her granddaughter, Dee (Mark) Middleton of Rothesay, NB; her grandson, Phillip (Sarah) Whittaker of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; her great grandchildren: Brett, Brittany, Allyson and Nicholas; her great-great grandchildren: Kaiden, Koda, Lily,Tyson and Clark; her sisters: Leona (Alan) Paisley of Oromocto, NB and Gerri Walther of California; her sister-In-Law, Charlotte Mersereau of Grand Bay-Westfield as well as several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis Evelyn Whittaker of Sussex passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on January 5, 2019 at the age of 92.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents: Eldon and Ethel Mersereau; her stepmother, Stella Mersereau; her daughter, Bonnie; her sons, Phillip (Eddy) and Nelson; her great granddaughter, Bailey; her brothers: Vincent and Howard; her sister, Audrey Fox; her sisters in-law: Elizabeth (Toots) Mersereau and Linda Mersereau.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). As per Phyllis’ wishes, at this time all services will be held privately, however there will be a graveside service in the spring.
