Raymond Brown

Obituary of Raymond Brown

Ray Brown was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 30, 1925, the youngest of four children to the late Andrew and Euphamia (Yeoman) Brown. He often joked that his name Raymond William Yeoman Brown, actually stood for Red, White, Yellow, Brown. Proud of his Scottish heritage, where two of his siblings were born, Ray spent a year at school in Leven, Fife, Scotland. Ray joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944, where he met Miss Helen Kilpatrick. On January 5th, 1946, a love story began that would transcend the test of time and last almost 65 years. Their first child, Susan arrived in 1949 and the second Nancy three years later in 1952. Ray was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He instilled in his daughters a love of music, books, travel, gardening and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1960 Ray moved his family from Windsor to Montreal where Ray worked his way to the top and became a partner in the firm KPMG. His work was very important to him and he was highly respected by his peers. Ray loved his role as Grandpa, creating games for the kids to play down the basement and dressing them up for photo shoots. Every winter he would make a snow igloo for secret meetings with them. Ray and Helen loved to travel to Europe where they hiked in Austria, Switzerland and Norway. When he retired, Ray changed his passion from work to golf and carpentry. He was a member of Summerlea Golf Club for over 40 years and his creativity in his workshop was evident in the many birdhouses, tables, and corner cabinets he made for the family. Two years ago Ray and Helen moved to Sussex, NB, to be closer to Nancy. He enjoyed making a new home with Helen in a new town in a new province.
