Obituary of Adrienne Robertson

Adrienne was born in Gagetown, NB on July 9th, 1923 to Bill and Gladys (nee McGowan) London. She was the second child in a family of five. Her early years were spent in the Gagetown and Jemseg area. Her family relocated to Memramcook, NB for her father's work. Adrienne attended school there and learned to speak French fluently as it was a predominantly French community. The family relocated again to Moncton and later to Norton, NB where Adrienne met Laura Robertson who would remain her close friend for over 80 years. It was through Laura that Adrienne met and later married her first husband Bill Robertson. They had two children Cheryl and Ron.  Sadly, Bill passed away at a young age and Adrienne later married Bill's brother, Bud Robertson and they had one daughter Donna.  Bud and Adrienne were married for 54 years.

Adrienne developed a talent for sketching her drawings in pencil and learned to paint with oils and watercolors when taking art lessons from Reverend Nicholson of Sussex and later with George Armstrong also of Sussex. Many of her paintings have been purchased by people in the Sussex and Norton areas and family members proudly display her paintings in their homes.

Adrienne was also very gifted with knitting starting with the traditional method of needles and later purchasing a knitting machine on which she made beautiful bonnets and sweaters for newborns. She also spent time at the Sussex Christian School mentoring younger students in math and reading.

Adrienne and Bud opened the first Irving gas station and restaurant at the Hampton bridge location which_ had previously been a gas station lube stop. Adrienne was a good cook and it was her fried chicken and coleslaw that became well known. She was also a great pie maker and known for her donuts.

From the humble beginnings at the Hampton location the Irving's began what would become the Big Stops of today by building a larger gas station/restaurant in Sussex which Adrienne and Bud managed for several years before they semi-retired. They then built a small grocery store on St. George Street next to their home in Sussex which was called "Bud's Grocery". They operated the store for several years until deciding to sell and retire.

Adrienne enjoyed travelling over the years.  These trips took her across Canada, England, Scotland and Wales as well as trips to Florida to enjoy the sunshine while escaping the NB winters.

Adrienne's family has grown over the years to include her three children, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren.

Adrienne was a kind loving person helping people in any way she could, and she had a deep faith in God. She was able to live in her own home until the age of 92 years at which time she joined the Kiwanis Nursing Home family.

She will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Cheryl Jardine  and her husband Gary of Red Deer, Alberta and Donna Titus and her husband Ernie of Sussex; her son, Ron Robertson  and his wife Brenda of Ottawa; her brother, Russell London of Gagetown; 10 grandchildren: John Jardine and his wife Sheryl, Suzanne Wallace, Dianne Jardine, Sharon Distl, Shain Jardine and his wife Amanda, Shaun Jardine, Melanie Harmon and her husband Jim, Suzannah Robertson, Amanda Dobbelsteyn and her husband Jon and Heather Titus; 8 great grandchildren: Cody Jardine and his wife Sarah, Tawny Moore and her husband Robert, Robert Distl and his wife Krista, Brandon Distl and his wife Ashley, Martha Harmon, Molly Harmon, Julia Harmon and Lily Harmon; 9 great great grandchildren: Taylor, Avaiya, Jesse, Weston, Lylah, Bennett, Parker, Luke and Dylan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
