Obituary of Stanley Black

With great sadness we announce the passing of Stanley George Black, which occurred on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his family.  He was born in Cherryvale, NB on March 15, 1934, a son of the late Ottie and Mabelle (Damery) Black and husband of Glenna (Slocum) Black.

Stan led a full and rewarding life with family coming first. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He met the love of his life, Glenna in September of 1955. That same year, he bought a new gun and his first car. Stan and Glenna were married in 1958;
their son, Wade was born in 1960 and their daughters: Kim and Sherri would quickly follow in 1963 and 1966.

He was so talented at anything he turned his hand to. Stan was an avid hunter, a skilled carpenter, fox farmer, a woodsman and he loved fishing. With an interest in genealogy he could remember anyone's birth month and year without looking it up.

Life in Canaan was never dull. The door was never closed, and the house was always filled with company. Stan and Glenna had many meals and stories to share. The basement was a place of treasure - his wood workshop where he did his fur, hung his horns and hid his candy stash for the grandkids.

His family was so fortunate to have handcrafted treasures that Stan had made over the years; jewelry boxes, cradles, toolboxes, dressers and the infamous quarter-pounders.

He was so proud of his children; Wade is a hunter and kept him fed in deer meat, Kim is a nurse and kept him in good health and Sherri is a hairdresser and kept him handsome.

We are all so fortunate to have known Stan for any part of his 85 years

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Glenna; son Wade Black; daughters: Kim (Craig) Allen, Sherri (Terry) LeBlanc; grandchildren: Sarah Black (Trevor), Hunter Black (Cara), River Black, Ryan LeBlanc, Nicole LeBlanc, Katelynn Allen; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Brooklyn, Maverick, Curtis, Cameron, Colin, Isabella, Ellie; brother Joe Black; sisters: Loretta (Jim) Beck, Myrtle (George) Ross, Roberta (Harold) Moss, Rilla Moss, Leta (Gurney) Beal, Linda (Harold) Constantine, Alma (Wendell) Maxwell; brother-in-law Reg (Carolyn) Slocum; along with many special nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his infant sister Jean; brothers: Eslie Black, Harold Black and sister Eva Jackson.

The family would like to express deepest gratitude to Dr. Laughlin and the EMH Sussex for their excellent care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8pm.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00pm from Wallace Community Chapel.  A private family interment will be held at Canaan Forks Cemetery.

If you are considering making a memorial donation in Stan’s memory, the family has requested the Canaan Forks Cemetery or the charity of your choice.  Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
