Obituary of Cecil McGarrigle

Cecil McGarrigle died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2019 at the Sussex Health Centre.  He was the son of the late Wilfred McGarrigle and Cecilia (McManus) McGarrigle and husband to Jackie McGarrigle of almost 59 years.

Cecil was born on October 20, 1936 in Waterford NB. He was a devoted and engaged father, husband, and a quiet community leader. He volunteered with young people in baseball, hockey, golf and basketball, and was an active member and volunteer at the Sussex Golf & Curling Club.

Cecil will live on in the hearts of his children, Tony of Sussex, Tim and his wife Velvet of Halifax, Tanya of Cassidy Lake, Tessa of Calgary and Troy of Montreal; his siblings Theresa (Donnie) Moore of Sussex, Donald McGarrigle of Woodstock and Eldon McGarrigle (Carol Randall) of Fredericton; his brother-in-law Gary (Jacinthe) Feeney; his sisters-in-law Catherine Sullivan and Joan McGillicuddy; his grandchildren Mark McGarrigle (Mila Milojevic), Katie McGarrigle (Matt Cousens), James Whan (Sydney Ward), and Jessi Whan; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his brothers Gerald and Marven McGarrigle and sisters-in-law Cel and Carol McGarrigle.

Thank you to Dr. Ray Butler, Susan Ferris and the staff of the South Wing of the Sussex Health Centre. It was fitting that Cecil received the same care, support and kindness that he gave to everyone his entire life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Cecil’s life will be held from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 1:00pm.  A private family burial will be held in Wards Creek Cemetery immediately following the service.
