Obituary of Gordon Seymour
Gordon Murray Seymour passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on June 21, 2019 at the Sussex Health Centre.
He was born on August 16, 1933 in Millstream, NB, a son of the late Stanley and Stella (Cosman) Seymour.
Gordon has enjoyed a full life. His nickname “Sunshine” started in High School because of his beaming personality. In Grade 12, he got the award “Best all around Student”. He was predeceased by his siblings: Lois, Walter and David.
After graduation, he worked for Shear Silk Hosiery in Sussex, NB. Once he was married, he and his wife Shirley moved to Fredericton, where he was a surveyor at the army camp in Oromocto. He and Shirley moved back to Sussex where he had the BA Oil Distribution. His next venture was working for J. Clark and Son as a car salesman, then advancing to Sales Manager and next Branch Manager.
Gordon opened a gas station and convenience store at 210 Main Street, he also bought many apartment buildings and Real Estate holdings. Gordon was involved in the community: Rotary Club, Jaycees, Saint Paul’s Men’s Group and the McDonald’s Coffee Club. He was the vice president of Sussex Minor Hockey Association and also served as a trainer with Coach Coug.
Over the years, Gordon had trailers and camper trucks to use for holidays and they had the family property at Grand Lake. He enjoyed travelling to Bangor, Old Orchard Beach, Santa’s Village, PEI and Florida.
While working at J Clark and Son, he won a trip to Mallorca, Spain, a Russian cruise ship holiday to St. Pierre, Miquelon and the Gaspé, a trip to Hilton Head Island and to Montreal to a baseball game. He enjoyed many trips to car shows, hockey and baseball games. They enjoyed many bus trips to Florida and their trips to Dominican Republic.
He loved dancing and always had a quick joke and was the life of the party. He loved to laugh and had a contagious smile and a sharp wit. He will be missed by all those whose lives he has touched.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, of 62 years; son Brian Seymour of Sussex Corner (Pam Schneider of Sackville, NB); daughters: Wendy Seymour (Real Theriault) of Sussex, Heather (Greg) Adams of Sussex Corner, Kimberly Seymour (Mike Oberpichler) of Toronto, Lori Seymour of Sussex; grandchildren Becky, Heidi, Cale, Conor, Courtney, Camryn; great-grandchildren Drew, Jack; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Walter, Dave and sister Lois Stewart.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 4 to 7PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 2:00PM from Wallace Community Chapel. A private family interment will be held in Kirk Hill Cemetery.
