Obituary of Catherine Raven

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the death of Catherine Shirley Raven of Sussex, NB, which occurred on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with her family at her side. She was born on June 16, 1949 in Sussex, NB, a daughter of the late Walter and Elva (Long) Morrell.

Cathy was the beloved mother to daughters: Julie (Marc) Worden of Sussex, NB, Pam (Mike) Lewis of Petitcodiac, NB; she was tremendously proud of her grandchildren: Marshall (Julie) Worden, Bryce (Shelby) Worden, Keegan Worden, Delaney Lewis, Bowen Lewis; she is survived by sister Sandra (Ken) Kennedy; brothers: Blaine (Sue) Morrell, Gil (Gloria) Morrell, Doug (Brenda Lee) Morrell, Rick Morrell; aunts: Marion (Ron) Frail, Muriel Long; uncles: Bob (Louise) Long, Francis (Dorrie) Long, Raymond (Deby) Long, Mike Kelly, Tom (Marion) Morrell;  she will also be remembered and sadly missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her brothers Marven and Bradley.

The room was never silent when Cathy was in it, nor was there ever a face that did not have a smile, always lighting up a room, cracking a joke or sharing a story.  She always made sure she lived every day to the fullest!

From the youngest to the oldest, Cathy always made time for the people she cared for!   Nieces and Nephews came long before her grandchildren, and she will be remembered by them as the funniest, kindest and most patient aunt around.  From sneaking them candy when they weren’t supposed to have any to kindly hugging them when they mistakenly combed her hair with a thinning comb that left her a little balder than she cared to be.

Before her children came along, some may have thought her first love was a nice cold glass of Pepsi, as that was often found sitting beside her wherever she was.  That love was quickly replaced when her 2 beautiful girls came along. She was proud to be their mom and she loved them dearly. They gave her the most amazing gifts as Marshall, Bryce, Keegan, Delaney and Bowen were born.  Being a grandmother was something she treasured, and her face lit up wherever they were around or when she shared a story about them, never wanting to miss a baseball practice, a hockey game or anything else that they were involved in.  She was proud of the family she raised!

For those left behind, she will be forever missed.  Family dinners will be a little quieter and crossword puzzles will go uncompleted. Cathy imparted to each of us the ability to see the best in people and situations, and to laugh at whatever life brings our way. She always said life is to short to waste it.

She loved…. More than anything else!  She loved with all her heart and our lives were made better because of her!

As we say goodbye, we raise a glass of Pepsi in honor of the woman she was and the lessons she has taught us,  and as we take sip, a smile may appear on our face, as each of us recalls a time that was made special because of her!

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 from 6 to 8pm. Funeral Service will take place at Wallace Community Chapel on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00am.  A private family interment will be held in Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point.
