Obituary of Ron Nowlan
Ronald Blair Nowlan - December 27 1952-June 29 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our husband, father, brother, and friend Ron. Always ready with a warm welcome, tall tale, and a cheeky twinkle in his eye he will be deeply missed by his loving wife Lois (Patterson) Phillips; sons Chris (Helen) and Andy; step-children James Phillips, Leonard Jr. Phillips, and Nicole Smirnis; brothers Paul (Gloria), Richard (Margaret), Tom (Aline); six grandchildren and; many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Alice (Poirier) Nowlan, and his younger brother (and partner in mischief) David. Ron will be missed by his favorite sister in-law Sherrylyn, special friend Alec Cloke (who gave him the nickname “The Captain”), Roy and Dale Patterson, Jeremy and many friends and neighbours.
A veteran of the Canadian Navy, Ron truly saw the world and everything it had to offer, but nobody would ever convince him otherwise that the finest place on earth was next to Lois in his own backyard, hidden in the heart of New Brunswick. An avid outdoorsman Ron could usually be found hunting, fishing, harvesting wood, tilling the earth, or planting a garden - but he was always happy to take a break from these activities to share a beer and conversation with a visitor. Nothing about Ron was extravagant or pretentious - he lived simply and happily but what he had he was always willing to share, right down to the literal shirt on his back. For Ron, wealth and riches had nothing to do with money or possessions; to him he and Lois were the most fortunate people on the planet, and he was often heard wondering what the poor folk were doing while he enjoyed everything his life had to offer. We have lost him far too soon, but are comforted that he had no regrets: he lived the life he wanted and loved the life he had. We will raise a glass and continue to embellish stories in his memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506) 433-1176 and will be held privately at this time.
