Obituary of Robert Folkins

With great sadness and heavy hearts, we acknowledge the sudden passing of a loving son, dad, grandfather, beloved brother and uncle, Robert “Bob” Folkins, on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Berwick, NB. Mr. Robert "Bob" Folkins was born in Saint John, NB on November 7, 1946. He was the son of Druscilla (Comby) Folkins of the Kiwanis Nursing Home and the late Oren Folkins who passed away in 1989. Bob is survived by his son Rob and his wife Brenda of Sussex and his daughter Lori Folkins and her husband Jeff Smyth of Niagara Region, On. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Barb Knox of Sussex and his grandchildren; Lee, Dawnie, Dodge, Jeremy and Rebecca, his sister Mary Jane Landry and her husband Eddie of Moncton, his brothers Major Stan Folkins and his wife Major Judy of Berwick and Walter Folkins of Sussex. Bob had unconditional love for his children, grandchildren, family, friends and his dog Princess. He saw the good in everyone. Bob was many things to many people. He was kind, thoughtful, and would give the shirt off of his back. He loved to talk and was a great story teller. Bob loved music and loved to play the guitar. He worked for many years as a carpenter and cabinet maker. Bob was a good son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbour and friend. He will always be remembered as having a smile on his face and a kind word for others. Bob was a member of The Salvation Army. He had a strong faith in Christ and he loved to pray. He loved nature and all that God created. We will miss him beyond measure. If you listen carefully, you can hear Bob laughing from heaven. For us, his laugh was what defined him. Bob was like that. He didn’t just laugh with his voice, his whole face and body laughed, too. His eyes would dance with joy when he greeted us and his heart would swell with pride over the accomplishments of his kids and grandkids. When he spoke of Robbie and Lori, it was clear that he reveled in their success and was proud of their legacy. He was enchanted by his grandkids, his nieces and nephews and their children as well. His laugh will only be a memory to us now, but the angels will be rolling in the aisles as Bob throws his arms open for his Saviour and the expanse of heaven is filled with his boisterous guffaws. Bob is an example of what a true father is.
