Obituary of Mary Belding
Mrs. Mary Alberta Belding was born in Norton on October 19, 1930. She was the daughter of the late George and Hazel (Crabbe) Braman and the wife of the late Douglas Belding who passed away in 1997. Mary grew up and went to school in Norton, in the winter she would skate down the Kennebecasis river to school. Her mother passed away in 1945 when Mary was 15, she worked in her fathers woodworking shop making berry crates and window frames to help out. Mary graduated High School in 1947 at the age of 17. In, 1948, she went to Pleasant Ridge to teach grade school for a year and while she was there she met Doug Belding, fell in love and were married June 15, 1949. In 1950, Mary settled her roots firmly in Pleasant Ridge, where she learned what it meant to be a farmers wife. She worked hard along side her husband Doug as well as raised her seven children. She raised pigs, milked 15 to 20 cows and fed and looked after 40 head of beef cattle. She also raised 200 meat King Chickens that she butchered, cleaned and sold on her own. Mary also found the time to bake bread, sweets and pies and make her own jams, jellies and pickles. Family was very dear to her and when possible she was there to share in the achievements and accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary loved Christmas, she was known for her large tree in her front room full of ornaments saved from years passed, she also had her own way of scrapbooking, taking the years pictures of family events attaching them to bristol board and proudly display them for visitors to see. Mary had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and tease, she loved to make quilts and many of them warmed the beds of friends and family throughout the community. Mary was also known for her love of lobster, her apple sauce which she hand picked the apples herself from her own trees. She also enjoyed going to card parties; playing 63, 45
