Obituary of Pauline Perry

Mrs. Pauline A. Perry was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA on December 20, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Ira and Olive (Foster) Webster and the wife of the late Herbert S. Perry.

She returned to Canada with her family when she was 3 years old and grew up in Wickham, NB.

In 1947, Pauline graduated from Gagetown Grammer School.  That same year she began nurse’s training at the Victoria General in Fredericton.  Later that fall, a bout with appendicitis quelled her enthusiasm for nursing and she did not return to training.  Pauline then followed in her mother’s footsteps and attended Normal School/Teacher’s College in Fredericton. Her acceptance of a teaching contract for the spring term took her to Canaan where she boarded with Elizabeth (Bess) Perry.  There Pauline met the love of her life, Herbert S. Perry. Over that eight year courtship, Pauline continued to teach in Philipstown and in Cambridge. She went from teaching to banking, working first in Gagetown and then the Bank of Nova Scotia in Sussex.

Pauline and Herbert were married on December 10, 1955.  They made their home in Coles Island. Their first child was born in 1958.  Pauline gave up banking shortly thereafter to stay home with a growing family.

Not one to do things in halves, Pauline settled into the community and made it home.  She attended the Coles Island Baptist Church, was part of the Ladies Aid, later joined the local Seniors Group and was treasurer for the Coles Island Cemetery Committee until her passing.  In the early 1970’s, Pauline became the community’s mail-LADY. For 17 years, through rain and snow and gloom of dark winter mornings, she faithfully delivered the local post. She was a regular participant in the social events of the community and always up for the next adventure.

She will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Beth Sayre (Ted) of Rothesay, Dawn Brown of Chipman, Sharon Fraser (Wayne) of Saint John and Pamela Bourque (John) of Saint John; her sister, Lillian Vail of Coles Island; her sister-in-law, Pearl Redmond of Coles Island; her grandchildren: Kimberley Fraser, Geoffrey Sayre, Emily Brown, James Sayre, Christopher Bourque, Sydney Bourque and Matthew Brown; her great grandson, Lane; her dear cousin, Marjorie McFarland of Fredericton;  as well many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pauline A. Perry of Coles Island passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on October 27, 2019 at the age of 90.She will be greatly missed by her 4 daughters and extended family as she loved and embraced us all.  Thank you Mom for so many wonderful years!

Along with her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Alden Webster and by her sister, Alice Ferris.
