Obituary of George Coleman

Mr. "Porky" George Wilbur Coleman was born in Apohaqui on July 13, 1926, he was the son of the late William T. and Stella F. (Record) Coleman. George was born and brought up in Apohaqui where he went to school until grade eight. In 1939, at the age of 13, George or "Porky as he was called, started working full time with Jones Lumber Mill and later Wallace Manufacturing. He met Libby Scribner, the love of his life at Wallace Manufacturing and they were wed December 16, 1944 in the Baptist Rectory. In 1945, he joined the Canadian Army; however the war was over before he finished basic training so he began working in the Sussex Dry Cleaning Plant where he remained until 1956. George joined the base Gagetown Fire Department in 1956 and later moved to Jemseg and in 1958 George and Libby moved their family to Oromocto. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling and square dancing, He and Libby danced together for many years travelling throughout New Brunswick and Maine. In 1989, after 33 years of service, George retired from the Base Gagetown Fire Department. He became a voracious reader, particularly westerns and local history. He enjoyed family BBQs and spending time with his family. He was always there to lend a hand and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
