Sincere condolences from everyone at Primrose Cottage. We were happy to care for Irene for the last year of her life. She was a strong, kind and sweet woman. Always a beautiful smile and something good to say. I loved that she always held my hand when I talked to her. She enjoyed her chats with Pauline and Marion at mealtime. We will all remember how she enjoyed Elvis and was impressed by his costume! She loved music playing in her room and our staff had fun telling alexa to play her music. She enjoyed having Fraser Green and Micheal Whalen entertain on her birthday and seeing Bob Burgess when he dropped in. Most of all she loved her visits with Nancy and family and the special treats and fresh flowers they always brought her. Lastlywe remeber how she loved to chat on the phone!

My heartfelt condolences to you Nancy & Dave, Jeremy & Alex on the loss of your loving mother & grandmother. You were her greatest joy & added life to her years. The warmth & welcome of the home of your childhood when we were newcomers to the community, evening visits back & forth "across the bushes" as she put it & Harold's "come way on over", is a cherished memory. Irene's spirit, resolve & sense of humour in the face of increasing difficulties was remarkable, none moreso than in this final year of coping with the enormous adjustments to her lifestyle, following her fall. Even dealing with nearly constant discomfort, her memory was keen & sharp & she never lost her calm, pleasant, soft spoken demeanor, ever appreciative of friendship & the smallest kindness. So loving, much loved & missed. You are not alone in your sorrow. xo, Madeline

With Irene’s death at the age of 93, the Thompson and Stewart families have experienced an enormous loss. So, too, has the Kierstead Mountain community, among whom Irene lived for most of her life — and Keirstead Mountain Baptist Church, of which she had long been a most faithful member (since 1955). Praying God’s grace and shalom for Nancy and her family, and for all who mourn the passing of this iconic woman. — Pastor Brian Steeves, on behalf of Irene’s church family.
