Obituary of Bigjon McShane
On January 21, 2020, we were forced to say “see you, soon” to a man who was larger than life.
Jonathan “Bigjon” Edward McShane was born in Sussex on July 18, 1989. He was the son of Paula McShane and Jeff Daley.
In his younger years, he was so proud of his time spent in cadets and the summer spent with them in Gagetown; as well as his brief stint spent with the Penobsquis Fire Dept.
Bigjon always loved camping and bonfires and time spent with his buddies. In his late teens and early twenties, you could find him just about anywhere with a tarp and a stick using it to setup tent with drink in hand. He was a self-proclaimed BIG HILLBILLY.
He had a deep hatred for dolls, but especially “Billarie” – his mothers very old and very worn doll and it wasn’t until the kids came along that he ever began to warm up to having a doll in the house. Even in the beginning they faced away from him or hid in closets.
He had a huge heart to match his bigger than life personality. He was stubborn and strong-willed. A true free spirit and a true pain in the ass. He loved to laugh, and tease and he knew exactly what buttons he should push. He was strong as a bull and loved just as strong. Nothing turned him into a softy as quick as his kids, he loved being a dad and was a very proud father.
Bigjon was a give the shirt off his back kind of guy. (Especially if it had sleeves, or he might even give you just the sleeves). Bigjon rule number 1…. NO SLEEVES. No matter the weather, he barely owned anything with sleeves on it and if it did, there was a good chance he was cutting them off. Even t-shirts.
He loved to cook and was great at it. He even made supper for Sam on their very first date. Over the last couple years, he dabbled in tattooing. He tattooed Sam’s phone number and initial on himself and when asked “what happens if you break up?” His response was that he wasn’t worried about that… because When You Know – You Know.
The world is a smaller and sadder place today. Bigjon you will be so dearly missed.
He will live on in the hearts of his mother, Paula McShane and Jude Aubin of Newcastle Bridge; his father, Jeff Daley and his wife Barb of Penobsquis; his fiancée, Samantha Cole of Riverview; his children: Tianna, Billi, Elizabeth, Elena, Zack, Mack and Tucker; his paternal grandparents: George and Elaine Daley of Penobsquis and Ruth Clark of Picadilly; his maternal grandparents: Ron McShane and Rose Brighton of Lower Millstream, Eileen McShane of Millstream and Gilles and Anne Marie Aubin of Hunters Home; his siblings: Joey Arsenault and Skylar of Vancouver, Jennifer Daley and Brendon of Penobsquis, Matthew Daley and Emily of Penobsquis, Travis Lathrop and Amanda of Moncton, Amanda Lathrop and Colin of Sussex, James Arsenault of Belleisle and Lexy Aubin of Saint John; his stepfather, Allen Arsenault; his father-in-law, Daniel Cole of Riverview; his mother-in-law, Rosa Cole and Marcel of Salisbury; his sisters-in-law, Becky Cole and Austin of Riverview and Michaela Tremblay and Jackson of Havelock; his brother-in-law, Tadder Cole of Moncton; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
Jonathan “Bigjon” Edward McShane passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2020 at the age of 30.
He is predeceased by his grandfather, George Clark and by his canine best friend, Zeus.
