Obituary of Harold van de Meerakker

On Thursday February 6, 2020, Harold van de Meerakker, passed away at the age of 53 at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Harold was born on February 02, 1967 in Schijndel, Noord Brabant, the Netherlands. He was the youngest of two brothers. Harold was a professional Civil Engineer in both Canada (New Brunswick) and the United States (Texas). His primary interest settled in the aviation field in Texas, working on numerous large projects in the Southern United States over his 22-year career. He proudly received his US Green Card several years ago and was only months away from becoming a US citizen, he could not wait to be able to vote. He loved the state of Texas who had provided him with a second home. Harold’s life was marked by three main events, life in the Netherlands as a child, immigration to Canada and life as a teenager, and his move the Texas for his career. He was a proud Dutch-Canadian, who adopted the United States (Texas) as his home. Harold was never afraid of a challenge, willing the do the hard things, he was admired by his co-workers for always trying to do the right thing. He was strong with his opinions, but gave everyone a fair chance to state their case. You needed to be prepared if you were going to challenge him as he was well versed on many topics. Harold loved people, and most loved him back for it, he was often the life of any party. He had a quirky and wry sense of humor that was not always understood by everyone. Harold was predeceased by his father Leonardus. He was survived by his mother Catharina and brother Robert (Tracy); two Nephews Logan and Connor and his Partner Nicole Harrison. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 1 to 3pm.
