By chance, my memory took me back to days on the Bonney Road, especially enjoying John's fresh tomatoes with Home made bread and home made mayo made by Gladys. They were memoriable times for me!
Gladys, you and John were a very loving and supportive family, ready to share anything you had with those in need.

John was a kind, friendly man who always found the time to come into the office, with a big friendly smile, to talk and bring in plastic shopping bags. I met John in 1981 when he talked me into working with the Property Committee at Trinity Church. I enjoyed working with him for eight years before we moved away. We were so sorry to hear of John's passing. We had the pleasure of living next door to John & Gladys for a number of years and we couldn't have asked for better neighbours! When our son was young, I can still hear John laughing when he would call him
Mr. Makermaker because he couldn't pronounce Wanamaker. Even after we moved, we made sure to go back every Halloween to visit & catch up. Our thoughts are with Gladys and the family. John was a great man!

On behalf of the Sussex Fire Department we wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the families of John Wanamaker. John was a beloved member and the first of three generations to serve for the fire service in the Town of Sussex; where his son now leads as our Chief and his grandson serves as a full-time Captain. His warm smile and encouragement has continued past his years of service as a retired member where he always took the time to share a laugh or build up the younger firefighters when he’d visit. He will be deeply missed and remembered with honour. Thank you John.

Our community is a sadder place today. I was so lucky to have had the chance to pester John on a fairly regular basis. He was always so kind always offering a smile and a wave when I saw him, or a little laugh and so helpful when I would call. I was lucky enough to work with John on a few occasions and see him in his element. People loved him and I got a chance to see what a great man he was. I will miss him dearly.
