Obituary of Carl Bennett Fowler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Bennett Fowler who died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at the Sussex Health Center on August 1st, 2020. Born in Upham, NB on June 25, 1942, he was the son of the late Cecil and Katherine (Bennett) Fowler. He grew up along the beautiful Hammond River, fishing and hunting with his brothers and his lifelong friends. Carl started working at an early age at a lumber camp in Salmon River. He then drove a truck for a few years. Carl began working for Rothesay Paper and later Irving Paper, and was manager of the wood room for many years. In 1966, he married Ann and they moved to Saint John, where they lived in Forest Hills for 35 years, and started their family. After retiring, he and Ann moved to Sussex Corner. Carl was President of the Hammond River Valley Seniors in Upham for many years. He attended several NB Senior conferences as a representative for this area. Carl enjoyed Monday night cards at the WI Hall in Upham and helped run the Wednesday night Bingo games. Blood donation was important to Carl. He was a regular donor for 25+ years and received recognition from the Canadian Red Cross for donating over 100 times. Throughout his life Carl and Ann enjoyed many years of travelling with the Twin Seas Trailer Club and numerous trips south. He had an avid interest in vehicles, both old and new. He would talk cars with anyone. Carl will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 54 years, Ann; his three children David of Ottawa, ON, Kathi (David) Warner of Sussex Corner, and Shelley (Gillmor) Dougan of Millbrook; his brother Gerald (Betty); sisters-in-law Sharon, Lorna and Tina; his beloved grandchildren Grace, Allyson, Bennett and Jennie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his brothers Andy, Stephen and Leslie. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176. Due to COVID-19, the visitation and funeral service will be held privately.
