I first met Max over 50+ years ago on the Miramichi. Although never stationed with him, we were always close by (adjacent Detachments - and mutual friendships) in New Brunswick. Max was such a mild and caring person during his service. He sincerely cared for everyone in his inner circle of RCMP Members, family and friends. A dear friend of mine..RIP Max....your family (especially your son) will carry on your traditional style of caring!!

To the Lutz Family
I am very sorry to hear about Max. He influenced the direction of my life over 37yrs ago. I enjoyed re-connecting with him over the last couple of years especially the silly jokes and riddles he liked to send. He always had kind, supportive, spiritual and funny things to say. My deepest condolences to you as your journey without Max begins. He was truly a special man.

I had the pleasure of meeting Max when he was out visiting Darryl on his many trips to Alberta to hunt and visit with family. Though I didn’t know Max well I noticed several of Max’s friends have commented on his calm nature. Well, I can attest to that! Several years ago, on a cold Alberta November day, Max and Darryl stopped in at our hunt camp for a visit. We were all seated inside the wall tent eating lunch and telling stories. My father, who has a history of talking and eating at the same time, was doing just that. Well, he started to choke midway thru his story. Not wanting to admit defeat he continued....yes both eating and talking. Well, a large bite later and he found himself in dire straights. All present witnessed the sound of a large chunk of hamburger hitting the back of my fathers throat. As my dad realized his predicament his eyes bulged like dinner plates as he frantically scanned the room for a sympathetic soul to come to his aid. As he scanned the room for help he quickly realized that I nor anyone else in attendance was as concerned as he was about his situation. I’ll never forget looking over at Max who, as cool as that November day, without even the slightest acknowledgment of my dad’s plight, remained seated, legs crossed as he took a long deliberate drag of his cigarette as if to say, “well you got yourself into this mess you get yourself out of it”. To all of the Lutz family and Max’s many friends, you are in our thoughts and prayers today as we mourn the loss of a great man. Max, we thank you for your service and may you Rest In Peace.
