Obituary of Reta Howley

Reta Reha Howley was born May 27th, 1918 in the small community of Collina. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Long) Sharpe and was the wife of the late Cedric F. Howley who passed away in 1990. She attended the one room schoolhouse at Collina Corner and as a young adult Reta moved to Sussex where she lived and worked for many years. She was thrilled when the time came that she got to move back to the old homestead in Collina. She truly loved living in the country. Reta loved her family more than anything. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were here life and she loved doing things for her family. She loved making pickles, jams and jellies and picking fiddle heads and berries; working in the woodpile, watching game shows and playing games like Yahtzee, listening to her music and she loved a good joke. Reta had many great qualities; she was kind hearted, patient, tough, independent and a great storyteller and cook. She was also a great teacher no matter what the subject: cooking, fishing or catching fireflies. Reta had a common response whenever she was invited to an event; whether it was Christmas dinner, a wedding or a graduation. She'd always say "I'll be there if I haven't gone to meet the Saints." Reta is survived by her son Paul Howley and her son-in-law Reg Best both of Collina, five grandchildren: Steven Best and his wife Mary of Townsend, Mass, Wendy Best of Saint John, Michael Best and his wife Donna of Waterford, Paula Robertson and her husband Paul of Sussex and Jeremy Howley and his wife Jeanette of Sussex; eight great grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel, Gregory, Katherine, Josie, Kaleigh, Marleigh and Brodye as well as several nieces and nephews. Reta was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her daughter Marion Best, four brothers: Whip Sharp, Harry and Don Coy and Frank Sharpe and by two sisters: Blanche Murphy and Beatrice Gautreau; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Reta Howley of Primrose Cottage formerly of Church Ave Sussex passed away at her residence on June 26, 2010 at the age of 92.
