Obituary of Barbara Carhart
Barbara Myrtle Carhart was born in Harper Settlement; NB on March 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Helena (Hunt) Rouse.
Barbara worked in Montreal at an Aircraft Factory when she was young. She had never done the work before but during the War, many of these jobs were open to women. She applied for the job because it paid very well, and found the work challenging, but interesting. She later moved to Hamilton, Ont and worked for Sun Life. She later returned to New Brunswick, once in Mount Middleton, Barb taught school at the Mount Middleton School and enjoyed working in the one room schoolhouses and truly loved working with children. She had all the patience in the world to help someone to learn and while raising her own family, worked at a day care in Sussex. Barb worked very hard to take care of her family as family was most important to her. She suffered the loss of an infant daughter, Valerie and then the loss of her son Larry. Barb was a strong woman and also very proud. Barb loved flowers; especially roses and lilies which was evident when you went to her home. She also enjoyed knitting, quilting and crocheting although she found it difficult later on in her life. She also enjoyed reading a good book.
As well as her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her sisters and their husbands, Mildred Sharp (Ronald) and Dorothy Fawcett (Harold); her brothers: Charles and his wife Julia (Travis) and Jim (Harold); an infant daughter, Valerie (Candy's twin); her son, Lawrence (Larry); as well as nephews: Gary Sharp and Raymond and Frank Rouse and her niece, Judith Sharp.
