Obituary of Marjorie Keirstead

Marjorie "O'Donnell" Keirstead was born in Collina on December 19, 1945, she was the youngest child of the late Murray Edward O'Donnell and Marjorie "Beth" Northrup of Berwick Corner. Married at 16, she had three children by the time she was twenty three. Raising three kids in Saint John was not easy but she did the best she could. Then she found her way home to Sussex in 1978 where life definitely got better. She then met Nelson, the love of her life. Along with Nelson came six more kids and the family environment she always wanted. Marjorie enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with her father Murray, from whom she inherited her green thumb. Everyone loved her gardening including the rabbits and deer, "the largest salad bar in Berwick". As a grandmother her love for baking was passed on to her grandchildren. She loved to teach them to bake cookies. Marjorie was the best pie maker in the world. Michael told her she came a long way with her pie crusts as he so noted the great improvement as the years went on. She taught all how to bake bread and pies to perfection. Marjorie had open arms to all who entered into her home and she always had baking ready and lots to eat. Marjorie was a person with many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed being a homemaker, quilting, sewing and toll painting over the years as well as enjoying time with her cats, Cali and Mrs. Socks. Marjorie inherited the musical O'Donnell gene. Everyone loved to hear her sing and play the guitar at her yearly corn boils. She also decided later on in her life to study piano and became an excellent pianist. Marjorie was a great teacher and listener. She loved the "Golden Girls" to come in for a good game of Skip-Bo and sometimes would pull an all nighter playing her favorite game, she loved to win. She even taught all the children in the family to play and no one, no matter how young they never got off easy. Four wheeling was a passion she had acquired over the past few years. She enjoyed nothing more that jumping on the bikes and going touring around with a bunch of her friends. Marjorie was the baby of the family and was known for keeping the rest of them in line and they usually listened to her. Even though she was very sick she was determined to make the trip to Saint john to see Daniel O'Donnell in concert. Her big sister Dorothy lead the way and the evening was a memorable one. Marjorie was very strong, she had beat cancer once and was determined to beat it the second time. Marjorie is now singing with the angels and looking down upon us. Marjorie will live in in the hearts of her husband Nelson Keirstead, her daughter, Debbie Mason; her sons, Ronnie Mason and his wife Tammy, Michael Mason and his wife Jessica; her step-daughters, Kathy Keirstead, Sally Miller and her husband Tommy and Tina Vessey and her husband Michael; her step-sons: Clayton Keirstead and his wife Lori, Lloyd Keirstead and his wife Gena, Randy Keirstead and his wife Melanie; her brother, Ronald O'Donnell and his wife Kathy, her sister, Dorothy Northrup and her husband Robert; 17 grandchildren: Ashlei, Christopher and Krystal Mason and her husband Chris, Lillian and Eleanor Mason Coleman, Kaley, Ryan, Jordan, Adam and Meghan Keirstead, Kevin and Amanda Miller, Brandon and Gabby Keirstead, Justine, Riley and Derian Vessey and by her great granddaughter, Skylar Mason; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Irene Myers February 28, 2010. Mrs. Marjorie J. Keirstead of Berwick passed away on June 5, 2010 at the age of 64.
