Obituary of Rachel Mitton

Rachel Anne Mitton was born on January 16, 1973 in Sussex. She was raised in Penobsquis with a family she loved dearly, and especially her grandmother Elsie. Rachel started school in 1979 in Penobsquis. During her high school years she played basketball and was the star pitcher for her high school softball team. Rachel enjoyed playing softball for many years after she had graduated. Rachel loved music especially Bon Jovi. She loved movies, including Message in a Bottle, Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman and Kevin Costner was her favorite actor. Rachel was employed at Sussex Super Valu for eight years and made many long lasting friendships. She met Russell in 1993 and they had been together eight years when Blake was born. Four years later, Brett was born. The boys were her life and she loved them more than anything in the world. She was a wonderful mother to Blake and Brett and encouraged them to always be the best they could be. Rachel was diagnosed with lymphoma in March of 2007. She fought a long and courageous battle and never gave up. She was surrounded by her loving family and was comforted by them right to the end. Rachel will always be famous for her long trips, which never really got started, because she would fall asleep before she even left Sussex. Rachel grew up to be the kindest, sweetest person you could ever imagine. She will be greatly missed. Rachel lives on in the hearts her husband Russell Golding, her mother Colleen Piers and her husband Gary of Picadilly, her sons: Blake and Brett, her step-son, Michael Milburn, her brother Duane and his wife Crystal of Sussex Corner, her sister Caitlyn Mitton of Penobsquis, her step-brothers: Shane Mercer of Alta and Jason Piers of BC, her aunts: Brenda Dunfield and her husband Murray of Berwick, Peggy Francis and her husband Stephen of Norton, Patti Jo Liddle and Jeff Saulnier of Ratter Corner, and Angela Mitton of Penobsquis; her uncles: Bill and his wife Jackie of Moncton, Ronnie and his wife Maureen of Penobsquis, Travis and his wife Doris of Portage Vale, Cecil and his wife Linda of Riverview, Tim of Penobsquis, Craig and his wife Judy of Knightville, Danny, Jeff and his wife Kelly of Penobsquis, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. After a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, Ms. Rachel Anne Mitton of Picadilly passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on June 2, 2010 at the age of 37. She was predeceased by her father Vincent Mitton, her maternal grandparents: Cecil and Elsie (Mackenzie) Mitton, her paternal grandparents Mervin and Margaret (Field) Mitton, her uncle Glen "Baldy" Mitton.
