Obituary of Lloyd Hunter

Mr. Lloyd Andrew "Andy" Hunter was born in Sussex, NB on October 8, 1950, he was the son of the late William and Mary Irene "Eileen" (Warren) Hunter. Andy worked at the Sussex Saw Mill and also the at the Saint John Ship Builders. He retired from NCO. He did body work for other people from his garage. Andy had a great love for family. Barb and his girls were his life. He loved to tease his girls and make up nicknames for them. Playing music for his beloved grandchildren was also something Andy enjoyed. He appreciated and loved Mike and Ray as though they were his own sons. Ina, his sister, also held a special place in Andy's heart. Andy could play anything with strings. He played fiddle, guitar, banjo, bass and electric guitar. He also loved to sing and write songs. Andy started playing music when he was young, around the age of 12. In the 1960's Andy played for the Town and Country Jamboree; as well as the late Pat White and the First Impressions. In the 1970's, he played in the Strawberry Jam band which included Pat White, Al Smith and the late June Doherty. In the late 80's and early 90's, Andy played with the Misty Mountain Boys with Roger McAllister and John Warren. Andy travelled the Maritimes, playing with the late Marg Osborne, who asked him to tour with her nationally, buy Andy couldn't due to family obligations. In 2006, Andy was included in a book about great Maritime fiddlers. Andy also loved hunting and fishing. Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Barbara; Three daughters: Lisa Breau and her husband Raymond of Edmonton, Alberta, Rachel Riedel and her husband Mike of Norton and Amanda Hunter and Gordon Douthwright of Sussex; His brother, Billy Hunter and his wife Arielle and their daughter Tina of Knightville; His sister, Ina Hunter of Smith Creek; 4 grandchildren: Emma and Sam Breau and Brendan and Rosa Riedel; as well as by his special cousin, John Warren and his wife Sheila of Gibbon Mountain. Andy Hunter of Sussex Corner passed away at the Sussex Health Center on January 5, 2010 at the age of 59.
