Obituary of Druscilla Folkins

Druscilla was born in Grand Falls on May, 4 1924. She the daughter of the late Arthur and Rebecca (Green) Comby and was the wife of the late Oren Folkins who passed away in 1989. Druscilla attended Public School in Tacks Beach, Newfoundland. At the age of fifteen, Druscilla moved to St. John's to work as a Nanny for Reverend and Mrs. Normans and when they moved to Saint John, NB, Druscilla moved with them. At the age of eighteen, Druscilla was employed by MacAvitys in Saint John where she met the love of her life, Oren Folkins. After they were married, they moved to Millstream and purchased the Ed and Amelia Folkins homestead. Druscilla spend 58 years on the Millstream where she enjoyed her family, gardening, quilting, sowing, knitting and music. Druscilla was a homemaker and for many years opened her heart and her home to many children from the Children's Aid Society. She also worked at Barbours (formerly Barbour's & McCready's) as well as The Salvation Army Day Care. After her retirement, she enjoyed visits with her grandchildren whom she adored. Druscilla had a deep faith in God and enjoyed worship and fellowship at the Berwick Wesley United Church and The Salvation Army Community Church in Sussex. She was very proud of her Anglican heritage where she began her faith journey with Christ. Druscilla moved into the Kiwanis Nursing Home and after a few months of adjustment, she embraced her new family and friends which included both staff and residents. "Hugs and kisses" were Druscilla's way of communicating her love and affection for everyone. She cherished all who knew her as "Drue" and she will be lovingly remembered by all her knew her. Druscilla is survived by her children: Stan (Judy), Walter and Mary Jane Landry (Eddie); her daughter in law Pam; her sister, Rebecca Littlejohn; seven grandchildren:Rob Folkins (Brenda), Mark Folkins (Andrea), Sherry McCullum, Lori Folkins (Jeff Smyth), Cindy Arseneault (Robert), Mary Alice Leaman (Wade) and Denise McMackin (John); eleven great grandchildren Lee Folkins, Jessica Arseneault, Joselyn Arseneault, Dawnie Folkins, Dodge Folkins, Brooklyn McCullum, Jackie Arseneault, Cole McCullum, Joshua Leaman, Rylan McMackin, Samuel McMackin and Hiram McMackin; sister Rebecca Littlejohn as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Robert, her grandchildren Dean Folkins and Teresa Lewis; her sisters: Susanna Warren, Ellen Keough, Georgina Burry and two brothers George and Enoch. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A celebration of Druscilla's life will be held from The Salvation Army Community Church on May 24, 2012 at 10:30am. ---Service Information--- Major Stan Folkins and Major Judy Folkins officiated. Druscilla's son Walter Folkins honored his mother with the vocal solo: "Nothing to Prove". Other musical selections include "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Breathe on Me Breath of God", "Nearer My God to Thee" and "A Place Called Home" were provided by Wanda Moore. The interment was in Wesley Cemetery, Berwick, NB. The Pallbearers were: Rob Folkins, Mark Folkins, Cindy Arseneault, Mary Alice Leaman, Denise McMackin and Lee Folkins. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
