Audrey Elizabeth Dawson of Wards Creek passed away after a period of failing health at the Sussex Health Centre on November 1, 2009 at the age of 81. Born in Saint John on September 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Lillian (Montgomery) Lavigne. Audrey loved children; she operated Dawson Special Care Home for over 45 years and fostered many handicapped children who enjoyed many summers at the Mohawk Campground. Audrey was as advocate for the rights of special needs children and adults. She believed they should be cared for by understanding and compassionate people. She was also the past president of CAMR (Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded.
