Obituary of Bill Schwetz

Bill was born in Summer Hill, Queens Co. on June 2, 1938; he was the son of the late Afanasy and Frozina (Boechka) Schwetz. He lived on family farm until 1953 when the army expropriated the land and the family moved to Corn Hill, NB. Bill stayed behind on the farm to help his Dad, and eventually took over the responsibility of dairy farming, Holsteins. In 1962, he met the girl next door, Marilyn Kyle, while she was in Nurses' Training, later marrying on September 3, 1966. Together they lived next door to the farm in a small house and welcomed their daughter Katrina "BooBoo" on July 3, 1968. In 1970, they bought a house trailer, put it on the farm and on January 21, 1973 welcomed their son, Stephen "Stevie". Bill continued to farm until 1976 and at that time sold his cattle and went to work in Sussex. In 1977, Bill and Marilyn built their first home just across the road from the farm where Bill's mother continued to live until she passed away. In 1978, Bill began working as a machine operator at Sussex Concentrates where he remained for the next 12 years until it closed in 1990. During his life; Bill enjoyed his family first and foremost, hunting, fishing, and his real passion, cars. He bought a 1956 Chev Belair in 1984, which he loved to show in various car shows around the province. He later became a member of the New Brunswick Antique Auto Club. Bill had a great memory for dates and events, and had an incredible ear for music, in particular country and western. He even taught himself to play the accordion at an early age; he only had to hear a tune once, and then was able to play it. During his retirement, he loved to spend his time with his family and found great joy in his grandchildren, Charlotte "Charlie" born on April 24, 1994 and Braeden "Brady" born on June 27, 1997. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, great conversations, old stories, and fond memories. Bill had an excellent sense of humour, and there was always laughter when he was around. His family and friends enjoyed his storytelling and his vivid memories always made one feel as though they were there. Bill had a great love for animals and during his days of farming, he would name each and every cow, and often would make pets of them. He would often reminisce about the days in Summer Hill and it was clear that he missed his home there. In later years, he took great joy in his beloved cat, which he had dubbed "Yeller Kitty" and the two could often be found sitting together at the picnic table in his yard. After Marilyn retired, they enjoyed a quiet life together, often playing cards, going for scenic drives, and enjoying their children and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Marilyn, his daughter Katrina Schwetz of Apohaqui, his son Stephen and his wife Shonda of Wheaton Settlement, his brother Tennessea Schwetz and his wife Irene of Petitcodiac, his granddaughter Charlotte (Charlie), his grandson Braeden "Brady", his niece Kim Treadaway and her husband Glenn of Fredericton, two great nieces: Montana and Marissa; Bill was predeceased by both his sister, Katrina "Kay" LeFleche and her husband Raymond.
