Dear Marilyn, David, Ken, Joan and Larry.
How saddened we are to learn of Clem's death via Merrill Nelson, Sussex (his late wife Dorothy and I went to school and graduated together in Hillsborough). He had earlier let us know that both Clem and Marilyn's health were declining and were in senior care. Ken was a cousin of mine; we would see each other at times in the past at Colpitts Reunions in Petitcodiac. Clem and Marilyn would also come to visit us on their annual trips through Fundy Park and Albert County in the summers -- we always looked-forward-to visits from this very special family and friend couple. Clem and I were related; Roland and Clem had teaching in common, and all four of us had faith in common so we had great and cheerful talks. These we have missed these past couple of years except for phone contact and Christmas notes.
This Covid-19 pandemic time means many restrictions. We have looked for months for it to be over so that we could get to Sussex to visit. Unfortunately we must still wait, so we very much regret to be having to miss the funeral and to meet you in person. However, know that we are with you in thoughts and prayers.
God bless each of you and your families.

I have always felt very fortunate and blessed to have had " Mr Powell" Clem as a teacher in my school years and later on as a mentor and most important a friend. He had a very huge and positive influence on my life and I am grateful for it. Thank you to his family.
May God bless you and keep you in your time of emotion.

Sincere sympathy to the Powell family. I first met Clem and Marilyn when I worked in the office at Sussex Baptist. Clem was a Deacon and a wealth of information about the church. He made me feel welcome (even though I was a member of the United Church!) and he was always very helpful. He was a kind and gentle man. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

I was in Mr. Powells electrical class in 77 ,78. He had returned to teaching after an absence ,I believe to study . He found our class behind because of a lesser instructor the year before , in his absence. We had to work hard to catch up. It would have been easier for us all to coast along and do the best we could but Mr.Powell did us a service by making sure we covered all the material from 2 years . To some in the class ,who were to continue in the trade it made a real difference. Mr. Powell had a stern look to him and I recall the first week of grade 12 when we didn`t know him well I carelessly but not intentionally allowed a 4 foot fleurescent light tube roll of the work bench and smashed on the floor. I stiffened .not knowing what reaction would come from this stern faced man or what trouble I would be in. I was an awkward teenager just trying to get through high school . Mr. Powell looked at the floor and then at me and said ``I think you ruined it`` Relieved I got a broom and dust pan and cleaned it up. Such a contrast between his reaction and that of other teachers I have known . I had the pleasure of meeting him through out the years . I have great respect for Mr. Powell

While in High School my Technical classmates always held Mr Powell with high regard, never a complaint. I returned to Sussex High School
as a Home Economics teacher in 1978. That is when I became to know Mr Powell for real. He was always Mr Powell to me. Always sharply and formally dressed, with a greeting with a smile as he met you. Then we became fellow teachers again in 1982 at the new Regional School, nothing had changed, always cool, calm and collected and full of wisdom. I hated to see him retire,, but on the other hand I was so happy for him to leave on such a happy note with good health! He lived such a great inspirational life for so many. My condolences to Mrs, Powell and family.

Dear Marilyn and family,
How saddened we are to hear of my cousin Clem's passing. We had heard recently that you and Clem have been in senior care, having tried to be in contact at times without success. How very much we have missed our visits in the summer when you were making your annual tour through the Fundy Park, Hillsborough and home. It was our intent last spring or summer to visit you, however the Covid-19 pandemic terminated our plans. That was regretful enough and makes this news of Clem's passing even sadder for us.
For your family who may not know how I am a cousin of Clem's, and of yours by marriage, my father was Walter Colpitts, Cora's brother. I will share this news of Clem's passing with my brother Richard in Moncton.
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you and now will have added to them our request that God support, guide and comfort you and family during this regretful time of loss.
Our love and blessings,
Anna & Roland Hutchinson

My condolences to Mr. Powell's family.
He was a great man and a great teacher. Everything I know about electricity I learned from him. I was in his shop class in the early '70's. I remember like it was yesterday how we had to build a basic amplifier and to test it the only record we could play was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.
I didn't follow through to work in the electrical trade, I became a mechanic instead but I used his teachings very often over the years.
Rest In Peace Mr. Powell. I thank you.
Bruce Morris.

My condolences to your family.....so sad to see....I refurbish vintage tube radios, and,I learned everything I know about them from Mr Powell....I graduated from his Electrical class in 1979...we were known, quite affectionately,as Junior Clemmers, from that graduating class....there’s probably never been a radio, through the years, that I’ve worked on,that I didn’t think of something he taught me...always think of him, when I hear Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass-it was his/our test record LP for our repaired record players...Sometimes,our teachers never know the affect they have,on our adult lives....Rest In Peace Mr Powell.... thanks for the knowledge.....somewhere,Herb Alpert is playing....

I have the career I have today thanks to Mr.Powell (out of respect he will always be Mr Powell to me).
I have many fond memories of his classes. He challenged us to think for ourselves and when it was practical to think outside the box. I still use some of his methods today.
I remember meeting up with him years after graduation when I spent winters in Marysville as a trades instructor When I told him what I was doing he responded with a grin. “Bet you’re learning more about your trade now than you ever did as a student .”
I’m a better person because he spent a brief time in my life. Mr Powell you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
