Obituary of Elma Rogers
Elma Margaret Steeves-Rogers was born in Waterford on March 12, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Albina (Bell) Dole. In 1939 she attended Provincial Normal School and began her teaching career in 1941. She taught in Jeffries Corner, Chamber Settlement, Riley Brook, Kingston, Hampton and Rothesay. In 1948 she married Gordon Steeves in Fredericton. Together they owned and operated the Maples Motel. Later they owned and operated the Sussex Cold Storage where she was bookkeeper until she retired in 1969-70. Retirement didn't last very long for Elma and she returned to the school system to teach education upgrading in the early seventies. She subsequently went to Central Trust where she began as a teller, later became an investment officer, and retired in 1985.
