Obituary of Elmer Thomas Wilkins

Obituary of Elmer T. Wilkins

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our father Elmer Thomas Wilkins, which occurred at his home on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the age of 94, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Markhamville, NB on February 5, 1927; he was the youngest son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Robinson) Wilkins.

Elmer is survived by his six children: Joanne (Jim) Race, John (Mary) Wilkins, Mark (Denise) Wilkins, Brenda (Wiley) McLean, Danny (Pam) Wilkins, and Lynn (George) Hutchinson; 25 grandchildren; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Along with his parents, Elmer was predeceased by his loving wife, Phyllis Wilkins who passed away December 5, 2020; his son-in-law, James Hampton; his grandson, Jason Hampton; his brother, Russell; and his sisters: Alice Burgess, Ethel Eisener, Edith Wilkins, Helen Richardson and Mildred McKay.

Dad was a retired farmer and lumberman.  He cut and sold Christmas Trees for many years in Kings Square, Saint John.  He loved spending time with his family, telling us stories of his adventures and would always remind us as children to say our prayers at bedtime.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176), where public visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 1-2 PM.  The funeral service, which will be by invitation only due to Covid-19, will follow at 2:00 PM from the Wallace Community Chapel.  Interment will take place in Trinity Cemetery, Sussex Corner.

The family would like to thank the Extra-Mural nurses Tammy, Virginia, and an extra thank you to Lisa, for all their care and kindness, and also our homecare ladies Sherie, Heather, and Brittany for all they have done.

Donations in memory of Elmer may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com.  Please see the online obituary for a link to watch the funeral service live-streamed.
