Velma was born on August 31st, 1919 in Ratters Corner, NB to the late Mary and Reid Campbell. She graduated from Sussex High School in 1937. She attended Normal School in Fredericton and began teaching in Walker Settlement. She continued teaching in the Sussex Corner and surrounding areas. She retired from the teaching profession in 1979 as the last principal of the Old Sussex Corner Elementary School. Velma was a member of St. Paul's United Church in Sussex and over the years had been an active member of St. Paul's Ladies UCW, St. Paul's Senior Citizen Group, The Kings County Retired Teacher's Association, and the Progressive Conservative Party.
