Dear Friends,
I have one more memory of Eroy's early life in Campbellton to add to my post from yesterday; The annual Campbellton Salmon Festival was a special time for Eroy. As well as attending some of the events, he would walk in the Salmon Festival parade every year, right behind the giant salmon float. I can just imagine how exciting the Sussex Balloon Festival was for him. I have given a donation to Crosswinds in his memory.
Sincerely - Nancy Scott-Langille

Dear Friends,
I was saddened to read about Eroy's passing. My condolences to all his friends and his group home family.
The writer of the obituary was unaware of Eroy's early life, specifically his years in Campbellton. The lab where I worked in the 1970's was renting space in the old Provincial Hospital (now Restigouche Hospital Centre) in Campbellton. I used to visit the residents in the wards, and I got to know some of the residents, including Eroy. He was in his twenties to early thirties when he was there. With permission, I would take him for drives and to various events in Campbellton. If I wasn't availalble, he had no trouble finding his way to town. He was a publicity seeker who loved to meet and be photographed with local polititions and dignitaries, before the days of cellphones and selfies. Some of those pictures appeared in the local papers, and Eroy loved that. I remember a hospital variety show for residents and staff, in which I participated. Eroy sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", unaccompanied and with complete falsetto. I was amazed - it was the only time I heard him sing. I once asked Eroy where he came from. He said that he was born in Moncton, and at an early age he went to the Roberts Hospital School in Saint John - a residential school for special needs children - now closed. He was at Centracare before going to Campbellton. In 1979 the lab was moved to another hospital, and I saw less of Eroy. In the early 80's, all of the long term residents were moved out of the hospital and into group homes. Eroy was transferred to a group home on a farm in Penobsquis.. He kept in touch for a while, and I visited him several times when I happened to be in Southern NB. I invited him to my wedding in 1988, and a staff member was kind enought to bring him to Campbellton for the wedding, an exciting event for Eroy. It was probably the last time he visited Campbellton. My last visit with Eroy was with my husband and infant son in the summer of 1991, when Eroy lived in a supervised apartment in Sussex Corner. I lost touch with him after that, and often wondered what happened to him. For me, it was the start of a long association with special needs youth and young adults, including my own son, now 30, who has Asperger's Syndrome, and his best friend. I also coached a Special Olympics swimming group for many years, ending with the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
I am thankful that Eroy found a community of good friends who were family to him, loved him, and were with him at the end.
RIP Eroy.

Eroy was a participant in most of Sussex events and he became a part of our community. He always stopped to talk to us and once yelled out at the bank, "You're the one who gave me money!" after I paid for a snack for him and helped him with a 50-50 ticket, which he and Kenny won and split the winnings. I have never seen anyone so excited! You could always see Eroy walking down Main St. carrying his bags. Eroy was a symbol to me - of how people in a community take care of each other. Rest in peace, Eroy. Hope there's lots of refreshments up there in Heaven.

Eroy will be missed by so many here in the Sussex area. Many times I met up with him in Town and would say "What ya doin Eroy" and he would say, " just down visiting my friends Lavine (his name for me)."I have friends you know" and indeed he did. I think just about everyone in town looked out for Eroy some way or another. There was a special group of his friends who always gathered for supper out for each others birthday. His "cake and a candle" was November 26 and they made sure to celebrate it with him. God Bless you Eroy, you are now watching over your friends.

Eroy was a neighbour of my family in Sussex Corner, & a co-client with my brother Todd at crosswinds. He seemed to always be coming by Moms for a”tea and sandwich” and called her Mrs Todd. Mom worried about Eroy like he was her Son. He cried hard when we lost our Mom- I think he felt she was like a Mom to him. RIP Eroy!

So sorry to hear of Eroy's passing. He enjoyed going to local music shows, and he always sat in the front row. I remember on several occasions being on stage, and Eroy would just holler out at me, "Hey I know you!" I would say, "Yes you do! Hi Eroy!" All this in the middle of a show. I'll miss his presence for sure.

Eroy loved the people in Sussex, and the people loved him back. He was a fixture at any big event in town… the Balloon fiesta, the Dairytown Classic, and Gary Morris’s jamborees…I loved chatting with him, he always made my day.

I like to think that your friends, Flo and Ruth, met you at Heaven's Gate and will lovingly care for you. They thought the world of you Eroy as did most of the town of Sussex. I can only imagine all the beautiful pictures you'll be taking. You will be missed. Rest Easy.
