Obituary of Elward Devine
Elward DeVine was born in Hillsdale on July 6, 1933; he was the son of the late Joseph and Annie Teresa DeVine and the husband of the late Kathleen M. (Mahoney) DeVine who passed away in 2002.
Elward was retired from Crane Enterprises (MacAvity); he enjoyed the outdoors, lumbering and his camp in Londonderry. He was an active member of the St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Upham for many years. Elward thought dearly of his dog Brandy, she was a big part of his life before Kay passed away and a wonderful companion for the last seven years. Brandy helped him survive these last few years of living alone.
He is survived by four daughters: Cheryl Case and her husband Ray, Sheila DeVine and Francis Chang all of Yellowknife, Nancy Secord and her husband Harold of Penobsquis, Cathy Burns of Hampton; his brother, Michael DeVine and his wife Frances of Hillsdale; eight grandchildren: Melissa, Robert, Andrew, Devin, Liam, Dillon, Colin and Sean; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. J. Elward DeVine of Hillsdale, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 27, 2009 at the age of 75.
Elward was predeceased by an infant brother Wiley and a brother Gerald who passed away in 2005.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
A service celebrating Elward’s life will be held from St. Francis Xavier RC Church on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11:00 am.
