Obituary of Elaine Smith
Mrs. Lois “Elaine” Smith was born in Saint John on August 16, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Edith (Henderson) Adams.
She graduated from the Saint John Vocational High School in 1957. Elaine was social butterfly. She loved her morning coffee at Dandy’s and when it closed, her tradition moved to McGinny’s. She loved to socialize and had the gift of gab, her friends always looked forward to their daily phone calls with Elaine.
She was a songbird, there was always a tune to be hummed or a song to be sung. When she worked nights in the tearoom at Barbours she was known for getting the eye from her supervisor because she would start singing and get the whole tearoom to sing along with her. She loved Elvis Presley and Charlie Pride so much that her girls thought that must have been the only music that existed.
She loved to knit in her earlier years. She knit everything and those closest to her were guaranteed to have something knitted by her in their home.
Elaine worked at the Bank of Montreal, a young Alfie would go in for payroll – all the while trying to catch her eye. Little did they know that by the luck of fate, a mutual friend would set them up on a blind date. Their love story would bloom and less than a year later on July 23, 1960, Elaine would marry the love of her life and together they would celebrate that love story for 61 years. Raising three outstanding girls and watching their wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren grow – all a tribute to the unending love that they shared.
She will live on in the hearts of her loving husband of 61 years, Alfie; her daughters: Kim Browne and her husband Todd, Susan Gray and her husband Dale and Teri-Lynn Wilson and her husband Mike all of Sussex; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Adams of Saint John; her grandchildren: Mark McGinnis (Cate), Cory McGinnis, Bradley McGinnis (Tasha), Holly O’Donnell (Jason), Andrew Wilson, Katelyn Wilson (Kelsey), Nicole Browne (Dave), Travis Gray and Emma Gray (Dan); her great grandchildren: Parker, Cohen, Madison, Stephen, Malcolm and another on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews.
