Dorothie Lewis

Obituary of Dorothie Anita Lewis

It is with sad hearts we announce Dorothie’s passing on December 24th, at the Moncton City Hospital. She ended her life’s journey with her beloved daughter Linda at her side.

Dorothie was born in Roachville to Annie M. Roach (nee Myers) and J.B. Roach on October 18, 1928. She attended Sussex composite high school and graduated in 1944. Dorothie attended the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1948. She furthered her training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal before moving to Victoria to work as a Red Cross nurse.

Dorothie returned to and nursed at the Sussex Hospital before attending Dalhousie University to obtain her Public Health Nursing certificate. She worked at the Public Health office in Sussex until her retirement in 1991.

Dorothie loved meeting and engaging with people. An avid reader and a voracious news hound, she always had the television turned to CTV News or CNN. She enjoyed guests and always greeted them warmly with the added order “Don’t Let the Cat out”

Dorothie cared deeply and passionately about her human family and her fur family. She was an amazing nurse, mother and wife who knew when a soothing touch and a kind word were needed.

Dorothie alongside her husband Ronald (Mick) were active volunteers at the Moncton gun club for over 15 years. Dorothies’ chocolate cakes were legendary. Both Dorothie and Mick loved dogs which was reflected in the Labrador retrievers and Rottweilers that they raised at their home in Roachville.

Christmas was her favorite time of year and it seems appropriate that she left us on Christmas Eve.

She is survived by her husband Ronald (Mick) Lewis, her daughter Linda Lott, stepson Bill Lewis and his wife Shane, step grandsons: Ted and Elaine (Audrey & Gwen), Ben and Mallory (Milo and Daisy Mae). Her sister in law Ruth Roach (Turner) and nephew Jamie Roach, sister in law Phyllis Roach (Little) and nephew Peter Roach.

Dorothie was preceded in death by her Mother Annie M. Roach (Meyers) 1997, her father J. B. Roach 1984, her brother John Roach 1994 and her brother Frank Roach in 2020.

Snickers and Tinker are waiting, tails wagging on the Rainbow Bridge.

Donations in Dorothies’ memory can be made to the Hampton Veterinary Hospital and the Roachville cemetery fund.
